The Small Orchestra of the Peoples is an artistic workshop that brings together musicians of different nationalities; an experience of possible coexistence among people belonging to different cultures and religions, born within the Foundation House of Spirit and Arts as an example of testimony of the encounter with the other, through musical harmony.
The Small Orchestra of the Peoples with the instruments of the sea has performed in various music festivals in different Italian regions, including the Festival of the Two Worlds in Spoleto.
In Sondrio, it presents “Oration,” a music and theater show freely adapted from “Memory of Wood” by Paolo Rumiz and written by the author for “Metamorphosis,” the project that transforms the wood of migrant boats landed in Lampedusa into musical instruments; it is the story of the long life of one of these boats: from Azobè wood tree of Black Africa to violin built in the Opera prison in Milan. Starting from the evocation of the first notes of Song of Wood, a piece by composer Nicola Piovani written after the construction of the first violin, the show combines sound and word in a single scenic sequence, with a musical score that is an integral part of the dramaturgy of the show.
“Oration” debuted in Calabria in February 2024 on the occasion of the first anniversary of the Cutro shipwreck and is a testimony to the enormous tragedy that occurs daily in the Mediterranean Sea, once a meeting place of cultures and now a cemetery of hopes.
