Gianluca Petrella, born in 1975, is one of the world’s leading trombonists. During his 25 year career, Petrella has collaborated with many internationally renowned artists writing, performing, recording and exploring the intersection of diverse musical genres; from the mainstream to the most daring experimentation.

Among these varied contexts, there have been important collaborations with Enrico Rava, with the acclaimed techno superstar Ricardo Villalobos, with Moritz Von Oswald, pioneer of German electronics, with dj Gruff, the leading exponent of Italian hip hop, and with the legendary dancefloor agitator Dj Ralf. In 2017 he joined the band of Lorenzo Cherubini aka Jovanotti, participating in the Jova Beach Party 2019.

“ Cosmic Renaissance” is his project inspired by the music of Sun Ra, an icon in the history of jazz that goes hand in hand with an Afro-futurist imaginary. The band is made up of musicians who share with Petrella a vision of musical explorations that blends both the contagious aspects of spirituality and physicality.
