Gegè Telesforo – BIG MAMA LEGACY
GeGè Telesforo voice, percussion; Matteo Cutello trumpet; Giovanni Cutello sax; Christian Mascetta guitar; Vittorio Solimene organ, keyboard; Michele Santoleri drums
One might call GeGè Telesforo‘s new project a return to basics. Gegè Telesforo returns to recording and in concert with a personal tribute to the blues and the sound of the late 1950s jazz – groovy ensembles of Blue Note Records. Throughout his career he has received numerous awards and honors. A vocalist from Foggia, he is also a multi-instrumentalist, composer, record producer, popularizer, author and host of the most beloved radio and TV music programs in Italy. With “Big Mama,” GeGè Telesforo wants to celebrate Rome’s most active and beloved eponymous music club since the late 1980s. Duke Ellington said, “Tonight, we will play you some blues, and some … not blues! That’s what we’re going to do, too.”
“Big Mama Legacy” is a tribute to the blues with a contemporary twist: it blends yesterday’s listening with today’s insights plus years of tireless research and experience gained on diverse world stages. 10 tracks (9 originals and an afrobeat-makossa-style arrangement of WAR’s 1970s hit Galaxy) steeped in blues, groove, afro beats, with intense moments of improvisation.
