Through music she manages to give voice to those different realities that, from a very young age, have fascinated her. African roots blend with soul, pop, electronic and folk influences. Themed on the desire to express oneself in the most authentic way, Bassy’s continuous search for self and expression of one’s inner world is experienced through her music and lyrics. The theme of the five tracks presented in MONSTERS addresses the concept of fear in its various forms: childhood, instinctive fears that we create in our heads; the fear of loving ourselves; the fear that does not allow us to act; fear of the world around us. In the songs “You could love me”, “Wind, rain” and “This world” the hypnotic and delicate arrangements and melodies help create a feeling of waiting and suspension. The final track, “Keep On Singing,” looks to exorcise past fears that are paralyzing and keep us from being able to move forward in our lives. “In every song there is also a cry for help, a prayer, addressed to those close to me, but also to anyone who wants to listen to it… and to myself.” (Anna Bassy) MONSTERS is an appeal, an exhortation, a cry for help; not just the specter of the fears of a lifetime.
